Am I suppose to understand that it is shampoo by the name on the bottle? Because surely I didn’t. I had to ask someone to help me. She thought I was a moron. Granted, I am not new to the hair washing notion, but since the last time I bought shampoo (maybe 2 months ago), there wasn’t this many choices, and even if they were, every brand decided to have a re-design of their bottles and name their shampoos based off of moods, organic extracts, activities you do while in bed….

Court Ruling in Britain Raises Question

Who Is a Jew? Court Ruling in Britain Raises Question:
bumblevision:

I’ve been in a similar situation to ‘M’ — the boy, in this account, who was denied admission to a Jewish school in Britain because his mother converted to Judaism, but not by an Orthodox rabbi. In fact, that’s exactly my situation, as far as my “technical” Jewishness is concerned, and although I haven’t actually been denied entry to a Jewish institution, I have been asked to reconsider joining a particular synagogue when we moved to a new town.

I can see both sides of the argument. Before I was gingerly rejected from the Jewish community, I had always felt the warm embrace of a small, close-knit community. I was encouraged to participate and to adopt Jewish practices by other Jews. I was being included by the people who knew me personally. After I was rejected by people who only knew my Jewish pedigree, I started to question the core values of the community and heritage. And here I am today — non-observant and embracing my New-Yorkishness moreso than my Jewishness, per se.

My identity dwells in a gray area. No, not gray, iridescent.

(via NYTimes.com)

I find this article and the entire issue here to be confusing in the least. I always joke about this by saying that ‘I’m extra jewish’ I often bring up the fact that “I’ve been circumcised, twice”. (Fyi, I lack the genitals to actually be circumcised, none the less, I’ve fallen in love with the expression and use it every chance I get).

Here is the issue, according to Judiasm, if your mother is jewish, you are jewish. End of question. If your mother is not jewish, unless you convert, you are not jewish. The conversion process done by Orthodox jews, and the conversion process by Reform jews, are two different processes, which creates a problem. If someone converts by a Reform rabbi, orthodox judiasm does not consider that person to be jewish, nor will their children be. An orthodox rabbi will not marry an individual who had an reform conversion, because, as mentioned earlier, the conversion process they underwent is not supported by orthodox jews. This does not mean that there is nothing they can do about it and that they are forever not jewish. The process it quite simple, get an orthodox rabbi to re-convert you.

Another issue which commonly arises is that if a child is over the age of 12 (girl), 13(boy), they require a proper conversion as well. If you are under that age you are considered a child and if your parent converts, you are considered converted as well.

I have a friend whose family converted when she was little. She learned in school when she was about 14 years old that girls over the age of 12 must convert by themselves and not soley by means of their parents. Being that she was 14, already passed the age of 12, she was told that being that she had not converted, she was not jewish. She dropped out of school and headed for some soul searching. She went to live with some non-jewish relatives and after a few months came back and sought out a proper jewish conversion. Yes, it was quite discouraging for a 14 year old to learn, but at the end of the day she realized a reason for the strange rules and procedures. Something has got to be set and without rules there will only be pandemonium.

Is there really a way to figure out how Jewish you are? No. There are so many facets to every religion that judging someone by the cover is going to get you no where. So how do you judge, simple, by birth. (or conversion). If it is an orthodox school, then orthodox conversion should be required and I do not see a problem with requiring that.

And lastly, bumblevision - being gray, or even iridescent is part of the jewish religion. Congrats you’ve finally figured that one one! I’ve lived in New York my entire life and brand myself as a New Yorker. Better yet, I’m from Long Island. My entire life I’ve struggled with understanding what exactly that makes me and honestly I still have no idea, but why kill yourself in trying to fit in where you don’t? Just be you and eventually you’ll find where you belong and realize that it just really isn’t worth it.

'90s rock bands that disappeared for a while but produced surprisingly good albums recently that nobody knows about

marco:

The thing was so tight that not only did it take 10 minutes to zip up, but I started sweating so bad due to the combination of immense energy used in trying to zip it, and the extreme tightness of the dress, I had to open the fridge and stand wit my body inside while zipping it.

Next size? Sure thing.

...And the jello shots just came out...

Am I really at a wedding?

This makes for 39 me. I’ve never been more confused.

I’ve explained to ally, jello shots are the new water bottles.

I don’t know the dance they are doing. Lots of shaking of parts I shouldn’t be shaking. I think ill sit this one out…

But I need to bring the water? Is this wedding going to bring an end to my career? Will a little bump in the road cause me to drop everything I’ve been doing for so many brides? No! I will not let this stop me. So things are being done a bit different here. So I’m the only person who has a top on their dress. I’m not going to let these things get to me. None of them!

Time to bring some water. You all stay there and enjoy, maybe ill bring back a jello shot for you.
